Supporting safe learning environments through independent monitoring and analysis

The project:

The Maynard Marks Environmental Services team was engaged to provide independent asbestos air monitoring, testing and clearance services during asbestos removal works within an existing school building. The project scope included background and control air monitoring, onsite testing, and final clearance inspections to verify that removal works had been completed to the required standard before the building could be safely reoccupied. 

Delivering these services within a live school environment required a considered approach, balancing regulatory compliance, stakeholder confidence, and programme certainty.

 

Our value add:

School projects often need to be completed within holiday shutdown periods, to minimise disruption to students and staff. We were able to deliver services and support this programme during term time, through deploying our mobile laboratory service. Having the lab on-site enabled on-site monitoring and analysis to be completed immediately, rather than requiring the need to send samples away. This significantly reduced turnaround times, and allowed monitoring, testing and clearance activities to be completed over a weekend.

The accelerated process provided certainty for the project team, reduced programme risk, and helped ensure the school could reopen as planned on Monday with confidence that the upgraded spaces were ready, and most importantly safe.
